Why register for Dog Group Training classes?

Join us and find out why The Dog Training Spot is considered to be the home of the best dog trainers in The Villages, Florida. Our founder and lead dog trainer, Stephanie Wapp leads our Dog Group Training classes and she knows it’s working on the basics and good socialization that turns any dog into the best friend you’ve always wanted.

With 25 years of dog trainer experience and a reputation as a Top 10 Florida Dog Trainer, Stephanie is the dog trainer you can trust. During our Dog Group Training classes, she works with the group to introduce dog training foundation work including walking politely on a leash, sitting, and socializing with the other doggy classmates.

Are Dog Group Training classes right for your dog?

According to the American Kennel Club (AKC)  “proper socialization means providing positive experiences with as many new people, dogs, and situations as possible. It’s essential for developing a confident and well-adjusted adult dog that is comfortable with all life has to offer.” And there’s no better or more controlled way to socialize your dog than in an expertly managed and run group training class.

The AKC mentions that dogs that attended group classes were less likely to show nervousness or have symptoms of separation anxiety. For example, they say dogs show fewer fear responses to things such as their crate or a vacuum cleaner when properly socialized.  This means Dog Group Training helps a dog behave better on the leash and at home!

Think of our fun and welcoming Dog Group Training classes as a perfect way to increase your pup’s socialization which is essential to them being a good citizen around town. Consider that researchers warn that a lack of socialization opportunities can lead to behavior problems down the road. And as we all know, an ounce of prevention (aka Dog Group Training classes) is worth a pound of cure.

Working with a puppy?

If you’re working with a young dog or puppy it’s good to start early. In his book, “Before & After Getting Your Puppy,” Dr. Ian Dunbar recommends that your puppy meet at least 100 different people in his first month at home. That should include individuals of different heights, ages, and ethnic backgrounds, as well as people with glasses, canes, hats, umbrellas, in wheelchairs, etc. One of the easiest ways to contribute to this necessary level of socialization is to attend puppy classes. And since our Group Dog Training classes are held in the very busy public square (Brownwood Paddock Square in The Villages, FL) we’re sure to run into, and interact with, many different people!

Again, according to the AKC article, the benefits of group training aren’t reserved just for the canines in the group – the owners benefit too. “Owners who attended puppy class treated their dogs differently than those who did not attend a class. Attendees were more likely to reward their canine companion’s good behavior. They didn’t use verbal corrections as often and were far less likely to punish their dogs — redirecting negative behaviors instead.”

At The Dog Training Spot, we use positive methods and these are proven to foster trust and communication between owner and puppy, leading to a stronger bond.

The folks at Dog Training Spot based in The Villages, FL agree with the AKC and hope you do too. The AKC article states, “Don’t ignore the power of proper socialization. Even if you’ve trained dogs before, don’t skip classes. Your dog will learn more than basic obedience behavior — he will learn to feel comfortable out in the world!”
